Storage Summary
Patrick Fuhrmann presented the dCache Storage Element middleware.
Discussion focused on simplifying dCache installation and
configuration, improving monitoring and support for dCache Tier 1 and 2 centers, and and coordination of effort between dcache.org and the newly-formed OSG storage team.
Installation and configuration of dCache for OSG have been
significantly improved in recent months due to the OSG team's work on adapting the dCache YAIM installation procedure currently used for LCG and D-GRID. The short-term goal is to achieve a common code base for OSG/LCG/D-GRID as part of the dCache.ORG RPM distribution.
dCache.ORG has recently introduced a python interface which provides easy access to the administrative functions of dCache and allows system administrators to script and automate dCache functions. We hope to unify the still disparate sets of scripts in use at different sites and package them into a toolkit.
Much has been achieved over the last few months, and system admins are starting to feel more comfortable with dCache. However, support for the Tier 1 and 2 centers, in the forms of documentation and human networking, will require a continuing effort. Ted Hesselroth of the OSG team has initiated “Chat with the Developers” phone sessions to promote discussion of the use of dCache features and future needs.
