October 12, 2009 (at 27th OGF meeting)

Banff, Canada

Banff Lake
The OSG security team and a group of researchers from the Computer Science Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are organizing a security workshop, "Secure Programming and Vulnerability Assessment of Distributed Computing Middleware," at the 27th OGF meeting. The workshop will be held for a full day on October 12, 2009 in Banff, Canada. All OSG software providers are strongly encouraged to attend; nevertheless, the workshop is open to all OGF attendees.

Participants can register with a half-week registration fee.

The workshop will have a hands-on morning session, presented by Professor Elisa Heymann from Autonomous University of Barcelona and Jim Kupsch of University of Wisconsin-Madison.

• How to perform the basics of a vulnerability assessment;
• How different types of vulnerabilities arise in a system; and
• Teach coding techniques that can prevent certain types of vulnerabilities.

In the afternoon session, Professor Barton Miller, University of Wisconsin-Madison, will
discuss his team's experiences in working with software projects. Zachary Miller of the Condor project, which has gone through the software review process, will present their view of the experience. Finally, OSG
security team will open up the floor for questions and experiences of workshop attendees.
